Unit 5

Unit 5: Contributing to Good Working Relationships (1.1 – 3.4)

1.1 Identify key roles and tasks in the production process

In the production process, It would normally be between a large team or teams and they would a role to each person’s and certain tasks for each role to complete. It is similar in my situation as an apprentice but most production is done through speaking one-to-one with my boss and having a weekly team meeting to re-assure we are staying productive and on track.

We would consult the directors in the team meetings depending if it’s a big change to the production process.

1.2 Outline how to clarify, agree and revise working arrangements in a way which promotes good working relationships.

A way in which we can clarify, agree and revise any working arrangements is to have frequent meetings and organise the working arrangements of others to make sure that it is what everybody is happy with their arrangement.

If someone isn’t happy with there arrangement there needs to be a compromise to suit both theirs and the others needs.

Once the working arrangements have been clarified, having one-to-one meetings with each member would be a way I would go about revising the work arrangements to make sure they are still happy with them.

2.1 Explain the importance of balancing the needs of tasks and people.

It is important to balance the needs of the tasks and people because without a balance, people would become unhappy with their tasks and that mood would spread to the colleagues making it harder to complete tasks. It is important to keep the person happy so they can preform better and complete more tasks.

2.2 Explain the importance of sharing information with colleagues

It is important to communicate and share information with colleagues as it is essential for colleagues to work as a unit to be productive and ensure work gets done.

Sharing information with colleagues promotes a sense of equality and with that equality there won’t be feelings left out between colleagues. I know from experience as if information isn’t shared with colleagues there ends up being a lot of miscommunication, feeling behind with your information and also feeling left out.

The sharing of information with colleagues can also be narrowed down into two categories; advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages

  • Colleagues have a better understanding of what’s going on in the workplace.
  • Productivity will improve as the colleagues can communicate and help each other with any problems.
  • Relationships will grow as they are staying connected.

Dis-advantages

    • Mis-communication
    • Colleagues will remain inequality as one knows more than the other and won’t share it
    • Lack of trust in others

2.3 Identify ways of tactfully requesting others to change working arrangements to improve own productivity.

The ways that I would tactfully request others to change working arrangements would be:

1. Scope who would and wouldn’t be willing to change working arrangements by asking if the others are willing to do different tasks.

2. Change my own working arrangements to then change the others working arrangements.

3. Sit down with another person and talk about any possibilities of them changing working arrangements and if not planning out a way that improves the productivity of myself and the other person.

2.4 Describe how to explain own decisions clearly and constructively

2.5 Describe how to resolve conflict situations or dissatisfaction

If I were to resolve a situation/dissatisfaction that could potentially cause a conflict I would talk to the person(s) involved and scope what their problem and I would find a suitable and relevant compromise.

If the situation or dissatisfaction were to persist after finding a compromise I would contact my manager or higher and ask for their help to resolve the situation.

2.6 Explain the importance of liaison with colleagues to productivity

The importance of liaison between colleagues is essential as it makes the working environment’s atmosphere better to work in and this will also increase the level of productivity.

3.1 Clarify, agree and revise working arrangements, promoting good working relationships
How do I clarify, agree, revise the working arrangements and promote towards good working relationships?

3.2 Communicate own decisions clearly and constructively
Explain a time that I’ve communicated my own decisions both clearly and constructively to people.

A time that I have communicated my own decisions clearly and constructively is when I speak to my manager face-to-face about the current project and my ideas on completing the project such as when my boss wanted me to break down several CSS files into two named Desktop and Mobile, I spoke with my manager and told him my ideas on how I can make this possible. If my doesn’t understand the ideas that I have mentioned to him face-to-face then I would resort to sending my manager a brief e-mail to make it clearer to understand.

3.3 Resolve any conflict situations or dissatisfaction as necessary
Talk about how I resolved any conflict between myself and colleagues.

If I were to resolve any conflicts or situations in the workplace I would speak to the people responsible and try to workout the situation and if the situation couldn’t be resolved by coming to a compromise or calming the person down and resolving the situation by talking then I would go to the managers or higher and ask them to intervene. An example of this would be if a colleague was dissatisfied with another colleague I would try to calm both parties down and if that doesn’t work I would resolve to informing a member of staff such as the directors or managers.

3.4 Lialise with appropiate colleagues to ensure effective and productive working
Talk about how I grown a stronger relationship with colleagues to make sure we go the work done and were more productive as a result.
